Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 2026

Batata is built to be the bookmark manager that respects your data. This policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, and what we never do.

What we collect

  • Account info. Your email address, used only for magic-link sign-in and transactional emails (sign-in links, account notices). No password.
  • Bookmarks you save. The URL, title, description, tags, and archived snapshot of pages you save. We use these to power search and the “ask my library” feature.
  • Billing info. If you upgrade to Pro, Stripe handles payment. We store only your Stripe customer ID and subscription status — never your card details.
  • Basic operational logs. Server logs (timestamps, request paths, HTTP status codes) used for debugging and uptime monitoring. Logs are retained for 30 days.

How we use it

  • To run the service: storing, searching, and surfacing your bookmarks.
  • To power the “ask my library” feature: when you ask a question, the relevant saved excerpts are sent to OpenAI to generate the answer. OpenAI does not use this data to train their models per their API data usage policies.
  • To send you sign-in links and essential account emails (via Resend).
  • To monitor errors via Sentry — error reports may include URL paths but never your bookmark contents or auth tokens.

What we never do

  • We don’t sell your data. Ever.
  • We don’t show ads.
  • We don’t track you across the web.
  • We don’t share your bookmarks with anyone unless you explicitly mark them public.

The browser extension

A browser extension is coming soon. When it launches, it will request only two permissions: activeTab (to read the URL and title of the page you’re saving when you click the icon) and cookies (to attach your batata.page session so saves go to your account). The extension will only communicate with batata.page. It will not transmit data to any other third party.

Your rights

You can export every bookmark you’ve saved at any time from your account settings, and you can delete your account (and all associated data) from the same page. Deletion is immediate and irreversible.

Subprocessors

We use the following third-party services to operate Batata:

  • Fly.io — application hosting (US East region)
  • Neon — Postgres database (US East region)
  • OpenAI — embeddings + “ask my library” LLM calls
  • Stripe — billing for Pro subscriptions
  • Resend — transactional email delivery
  • Sentry — error monitoring
  • BetterStack — uptime monitoring
